Blues Under-18s made it two wins in the space of four days as they beat Nottingham Forest 4-1 on Tuesday afternoon.

Continuing their fine goalscoring form, which has seen them hit 13 goals in the last three matches, Blues proved too strong for the visitors at the Trillion Trophy Training Centre in their Professional Development League fixture.

Falling behind against the run of play, Blues drew level before the break through Jordan James. They then went on to take the lead when Jobe Bellingham found the net, with goals from Rico Patterson and Josh Williams in the closing stages emphasising Blues’ superiority.

The win for Paul Harsley’s side followed a weekend victory away to Crewe Alexandra, with the Professional Development Coach telling how he utilised his whole squad to collect six points from the two matches.

He said: “I made sure all the players started one of the two games. Their recovery because of this wasn’t too much of an issue and ensured each player got one game out of the two.”

Having fallen behind from the penalty spot, Blues responded emphatically to run out comfortable winners. And Harsley was pleased with how his team brushed off the setback to overcome Forest.

He explained: “They got a penalty from a mistake and we had to come back. We equalised after half an hour and then second half it was more Birmingham. It was comfortable in the end and nice to come back from going behind.

“It wasn’t as if we were under a lot of pressure before the penalty, so we just remained focused and positive. We didn’t play as well in the first half, but we got stronger as the game went on.”

Blues were again clinical in front of goal, making it nine counters in 180 minutes, with Harsley reiterating how this comes from their work in between matches.

He said: “We have been doing a lot of work and everyone gains an understanding of what we are after. To score from across the midfield, wide and centre forward is good to see all the work paying off and the lads are taking it all in.”

The Under-18s are back in action later this month when they travel to Hull, with Harsley anticipating that the latest impressive showing could see some of his players involved elsewhere at the Football Club.

“We play again next Saturday, and we are looking to develop everyone in the squad, develop the individuals and with the under-23s some of the lads might get an opportunity in there.”
